Ethical Dimensions of School-Based Music Education by Thomas Regelski: A Close Reading Workshop Series

DESCRIPTION

A three-day workshop series featuring a close reading of the essay, Ethical Dimensions of School-Based Music Education by Thomas Regelski (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_A._Regelski). Close reading strategies will include speech synthesis, listening, concept mapping, mind-mapping, personal note-taking regarding new knowledge, points of personal connection, questions/disagreements, and areas of further study related to the essay. Participants will create a digital poster (i.e., Canva, Google Drawing, etc.) showcasing their learning from the workshop series and an exposition of their personal ethics regarding school-based music education.

PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO

  • closely read & listen to critical literature in music education

  • explore innovations of close reading strategies for critical literature in music education

  • reflect and discuss various reading, listening, and academic learning strategies

  • reflect and discuss (personal) ethical dimensions in music education

  • reflect and discuss prior personal experiences in K-12 music education

  • demonstrate use of digital tools for multimedia presentation (i.e., construction of a digital poster)
